made to your design
Using our bespoke service you can design your own coat, matching your chosen fabric to your favourite style.
Pricing for our bespoke coats is based on our RTW alternatives. Additional charges are only raised when extra materials and labour are involved. We pass these charges on at cost and will always confirm your price upfront.
Going bespoke, you can specify everything from your coat's outer, lining, trim and length to its collar, sleeve length and its closures. On several of our styles we can also add or subtract width at the all important bust, shoulder and hip areas.

If you have doubts on sizing or style, you are welcome to use one of our fitting services. If you find your coat needs a tweak when you receive it, let us know; we will be happy to do this for you.
how to start
Depending on what it is you are looking for, you can either start by first choosing your fabric and then selecting your style or first choosing your style and then your fabric.
Each style is shown with the fabrics that we can make it in and each fabric is shown with the styles we can use it with. Our prices vary according to both style and fabric, reflecting the cost of fabrication, the amount of fabric used and the price of each fabric.
If there's a style you would like in a fabric that isn't offered with it, do get in touch and we will let you know what is possible.

If you aren't sure about either fabric or style, take a look at our Gallery and get inspired.

styles
Our styles are conceived around four different shapes – the A-Line, the Column, the Hourglass and the Cocoon. Combined these should fit and flatter the full range of female frames.
The A-Line, Hourglass and Column shapes are offered with different sleeve headers and sleeves. Those with header treatments – The Bell, The Burlinson, The Nicholson and The Fedden – have small pleats as standard, but you can plump instead for gentle gathers or box pleats.

Our A-Line coats come in two different fits. The Bell and Carrington for the smaller busted, the Burlinson and Boyce for those with more generous busts. The Burlinson and Boyce can be let out at the bust to accommodate a better fit for each wearer.
outers
We value rarity and relish variety and offer a dizzying variety of fabulous fabrics.

Our bouclés and brocades are particularly memorable; accordingly we purchase and commission these in short lengths, allowing for a maximum of 12 coats. This means we can offer our customers a constantly changing choice of fabrics. It also means that when ordering one you will have certainty your coat won't be one of many.

We source our wools, tweeds, flannels and silks with care to provide as much choice as we can on weight, warmth, colour and pattern. If you don't see exactly what you need, do please get in touch. If we can source it, we will – but please remember that with the exception of our light silks, we will only buy British-made textiles.

inners
We like to make our coats as beautiful inside as they are outside. Not to miss an opportunity to play with colour, we offer our linings in about twenty different shades and our bias trims in more than thirty. We also take as much care as we do with our outer fabrics in selecting them. If we source a new outer fabric and don't see a perfect complement in our existing inner offering, we find it and add it to our lineup.

We suggest a lining and trim combination for all our outer fabrics, but you are free to chose your own combination from the selection below. We will send you a shot of your fabric, lining and bias combination to make sure you are happy with it before proceeding with your order.

If you don't see anything that works for you, let us know and we can help source your ideal colour.
closures
When designing your coat, you can choose whether to add closures.

Our Nicholson and Hamnett coats aren't intended to close at all, but the rest of our coats 'meet' in the middle where they can be held in place and 'closed'.

You can of course either opt to go without a closure altogether or to add your own, but should you wish us to supply (and or fit your coat with) one, we have sought out the best we could find and even gone so far as to design our own.

Ranging from small but solid, well-made and tactile hidden options to dramatically defining alternatives, we have closures to sort all tastes. We hope you find one that works for you.
house sizing
We have measured and sized our coats on real women – but of course some of us have broader backs and deeper diaphragms, others fuller busts, narrower shoulders, higher hips ... and so the list goes on.
Our size guide sets out the measurements of our coats in each of our styles. Please do be aware that the measurements given are the measurements of the garments themselves – and do take into account the weight of the fabrics you are using – a thicker or more structured fabric will make a slightly smaller coat than a lighter alternative.

If in doubt, do get in touch. Similarly, if you need your coat tweaked from the house sizes listed – or if you simply need a larger or smaller size – please do let us know. For the most part we should be able to sort you out.

pricing on adjustments
We don't impose gratuitous charges for making adjustments to our styles.
Any variations in price for size or style adjustments are based on additional fabric lengths required and the time or workmanship involved. For instance, when making a coat we will not charge for making a hem or sleeve length shorter or removing a pocket.

If your proposed adjustments do incur a charge, we will always confirm this with you prior to proceeding with your order.
timing
You should typically expect to be able to receive your coat within two-to-three weeks of finalising your order.
Should we envisage any delay to this timing we will advise you and await confirmation from you on the acceptability of the estimated timeframe before proceeding to cut and make your coat.

Should you need a coat more urgently, please do contact us – we will always do our best!
returns
As our bespoke coats are made in line with your specifications, and because we make them to your specific requirements, you will not be able to cancel an order once production has commenced. Accordingly, they are non-returnable and non-refundable.
We offer a free-of-charge modification service if on receipt of your coat, you find you need an alteration. Please contact us within 14 days advising us of any alterations you would like us to make.

Any coats being returned for alteration should be sent to us via the same Royal Mail Special Delivery insured next day service we shipped the coat out in. Once the requested alterations have been made, we will return the coat to you using the same service which we charge for at cost.
house stock
We make a small amount of coats in a range of fabrics, styles and sizes to showcase what is possible. We periodically make these available for sale online and at events and shops around the country.
When you purchase one of our stock coats online it will be sent out to you with a ribbon threaded through the right arm, looped through the collar and joined at the front with a wax seal. Please try on your coat and make sure you are happy with it before breaking the seal, cutting or trying to remove the ribbon. Once the ribbon is cut or the seal is broken, we cannot accept the coat's return.
Any coat that is returned must have its ribbon and seal intact, be unworn and unwashed, and have all protective materials in place. Please see our returns section for further details.
